Memorial — Rebecca Susan Kennedy

Rebecca "Becky" Kennedy (Pfender) went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2022. During her lifetime she was very active in many endeavors.

In Seattle, Washington she loved to sail and being in a boat on the water of Puget Sound. During college, she spent a year abroad teaching sailing at a camp in Scotland. She also taught sailing at a camp in Maine. She often told stories of enjoying time outdoors, such as being a Campfire Girl as a child and sailing as a young adult.

In Houston, Texas, she married Steve in 1982. She finished her Masters degree and worked for NASA while serving in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves and sailing on her sailboat. At NASA, Becky was on the team for the first Space Shuttle mission.

She and Steve moved to Arizona in the mid-1980s where their daughter, Laura, was born. She spent the rest of her life in Phoenix, taking many trips with her family to places like Sweden, Alaska, Disneyland, and many summers camping at the Grand Mesa in Colorado. She loved spending time with Steve and Laura. She loved to sew and often made home decor, doll dresses, and clothes for all Laura's performing arts endeavors.

In the late 1990s, Becky was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. She never let the disease impact her attitude or her love and enjoyment of her family. She actively sought every treatment available and never let it define her life. One of her most proud accomplishments was writing a book about her experience living with MS. My MSAdventures helped her become connected with an MS support community across the country. She was interviewed on television about the book and was also featured in a documentary about MS. Her message was simple: you can have a positive attitude amid any trying circumstance. She was an inspiration to her friends and family.

Becky will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Becky had a clever sense of humor, loving puns and Mad Libs. She loved the women's ministries at her church and had many friends from her years of involvement. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Luke and Lily, who she loved very much. She was able to be present at both their baptisms. Her memory will live on in their smiles, laughter, and hugs.

If interested, people can donate to the National MS Society in Becky's name.
